Lions donate £200 to foodbank

lyme forwardTHE recently relaunched Lyme Regis Foodbank has received a donation of £200 following coverage by LymeOnline

Bridport Lions Club made the donation to the foodbank after reading about the cause in a recent printed edition of LymeOnline.

In her correspondence with LymeForward, which runs the foodbank, Lions Club president Sheila Burton commented: “It is not widely known but Bridport Lions covers from Abbotsbury in the east to Lyme in the west and we are always happy to help where we can.

“We have a Facebook page, Bridport Lions Club, which will show our most recent activities.”

Chris Boothroyd, chairman of LymeForward’s Health and Wellbeing Group, said: “This spontaneous gesture is a wonderful example of the sort of neighbourly cooperation from which everyone benefits.

“The money will help us to supplement stocks and to purchase fresh, non-donated food for its clients. We are enormously grateful to the Lions.”

Lyme Regis Foodbank is open every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon at The Hub in Church Street, where donations on non-perishable items can be made.
