AN April Fool’s Day joke had Facebook users in a fluster this weekend.

A fake planning notice was pinned to the telephone box outside the fire-stricken Regent Cinema in Lyme Regis, saying the building would be replaced with 18 holiday apartments, a Starbucks, KFC and Wetherspoons.

Local barman Matt Puddy took a photo of the notice and posted it on Facebook, where social media users were quick to react.

Several expressed their dismay at the fake plans before cottoning on to the April Fool.

The auditorium of the Regent Cinema in Broad Street was completely destroyed by fire two years ago, and residents are keen to see the attraction rebuilt and re-opened.

Owners WTW-Scott Cinemas have said they are still committed to rebuilding the venue, and architects are currently working on their third proposal for the site.
