Halloween Ball a spook-tacular success!

Lyme Regis Golf Club captains Arthur Daines and Sandra Barclay in fancy dress

MEMBERS and supporters of Lyme Regis Golf Club went all out to win the coveted ‘best costume’ trophy at their Halloween Ball last Saturday night.

The event was hosted by captain Arthur Daines and lady captain Sandra Barclay, and guests put in such an effort with their fancy dress they were barely recognisable… was that really Graham Peterson as Doctor Death and the captain as Beetlejuice?

Last year’s winners Susanna and Barry Usher were pipped to the post by Chris Mitchell and wife Christine.

The clubhouse was also transformed for the evening, lit with pumpkins and decked out with skeletons, cobwebs and spiders.

New club steward Pete, head chef Steve and staff served up a three-course supper to satisfy the hungriest monster, including beetroot Bloody Mary broth, charred chicken and goulish spiced risotto, and warm chocolate brownie with blood orange sorbet.

Former club captain Lee Caddy and his partner Lynnette Ravenscroft organised a Halloween quiz, raising more than £260 for Lyme Regis Community Café* and the two captains’ chosen charity of the year, Guide Dogs UK.

The quiz prize, full of chocolates, bubbly and a voucher donated by The Harbour Inn, was won by the club captain’s wife, Gail Daines.

Organisers would like to thank greenkeeper Dave Everett who acted as DJ for the night, mashing up all the monster hits from the 60s and 70s.

*Lyme Regis Community Café is open every Tuesday from 9am to 1pm serving hot drinks and a selection of homemade cakes and other snacks. All welcome – just pay what you can, if you can!
