TRAIN services from Axminster are being affected by strike action called by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT).
The strike has been called following a long-running dispute between RMT and South Western Railway over the need for guards on trains. Industrial action started today (Monday) and will continue over the Christmas and New Year period until Thursday, January 2.
This means fewer trains, earlier finishes and some replacement buses on South Western Railway throughout December.
On weekdays until Friday, December 20 a reduced service will run:
- Some routes will not have a train service or a replacement bus service
- Services will finish earlier than normal at around 11pm
- Peak services will be much busier than normal, and queuing arrangements may be put in place at busy stations
From Axminster, trains to Exeter St David’s and London Waterloo will run every two hours rather than hourly.
On Saturdays and Sundays in December a reduced service will run on most of the network. Some routes will not have a train service or a replacement bus service. You can find the details for each route on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 here.
Plans are still being finalised for the period from December 23 to January 2.
Passengers are encouraged to check details of their journey in advance, by visiting www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey/rmt-industrial-action or using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.
