Help for all ages during coronavirus

DURING the coronavirus pandemic, many people are staying at home for long periods of time.

Living under such restrictions will cause concern for people who do not have any nearby support, and Dorset Council wants to give reassurance to any resident this may be affecting.

If you don’t have family, friends or a support network that can help you get the things you need, the Dorset COVID-19 Response Hub has a dedicated helpline that can provide additional help and information.

The hub has been set up to help people of all ages with access to food shopping and delivery, collecting medicine, dog walking, befriending and more during this situation.

If you need help, you can call 01305 221000, 8am to 8pm, seven days a week or email communityresponse@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

Dorset Council portfolio holder Adult Social Care and Health, Cllr Laura Miller said: “If you, or someone you know, is vulnerable because they are self-isolating and cannot get access to food or medicine, they have care needs or are at risk of loneliness and isolation call the helpline and trained staff can help you get the things you need.

“Please don’t be afraid to call us, we’re here to help and there is absolutely no need for anyone to go without.”

Those who have already used the hub have commented on how much it has helped them.

One resident said; “You spoke to us a couple of days ago and you arranged to send a parcel of food for us. We received it last night. Thank you very much, it’s fantastic. We couldn’t believe our eyes and I was very, very grateful, so thank you very much Greg you saved the day.”

Another commented: “Can’t fault the service, everyone is lovely, when the box came it brought tears to my eyes.”

Another resident said: “The packs are very nutritious; oranges, pears and baked beans, very good, well thought through package. Thank you! It’s reassuring to know we won’t starve.”
