Man arrested in supermarket for contaminating goods

A MAN was arrested after allegedly contaminating goods at Bridport supermarket. 

The 20-year-old local man was arrested after the incident in Lidl on St Andrew’s Road, Bridport, on Friday, April 3.

At about 2pm the man entered the store wearing a face mask and gloves. He allegedly then lowered his mask, licked his fingers and purposely rubbed them onto a product on the shelves.

Following police enquiries the man was arrested and subsequently charged with an offence of contaminating or interfering with goods with intent under section 38 of the Public Order Act 1986.

He is next due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 6.

The man did not have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and was not displaying symptoms.
