LYME Regis Christmas Lights Committee have been busy with final preparations for the town’s festive illuminations, with the lights starting to be put in place over the coming days in time for the big switch-on on Saturday, November 27.

The lighting up of Lyme never fails to draw crowds and gasps of wonder from onlookers soaking up the magical seasonal atmosphere and this year the festive extravaganza is set to be bigger and better with an illuminated carnival at 5pm preceding the switch on at 5.30pm.

The afternoon celebrations commence with the Christmas lantern making workshop at Pine Hall, Lyme Regis Baptist Church at 2pm.

This is a free event with all materials provided and is great fun for kids and all the family. Prizes will be awarded for the best lanterns in each age category with judging taking place at 4pm.

Lanterns made at home are welcome to enter the competition.

Those with lanterns will join the illuminated carnival procession which will feature Lyme Regis Majorettes who will be adding a bit of extra energy and sparkle to the proceedings.

Santa will be arriving in town on his sleigh to turn on the lights.

Lyme Morris will be entertaining the crowds after the switch on and Santa will mingle to chat and have photos.

Christmas Lights Committee Chairman Rob James commented: “We’re hoping as many people as possible join us to celebrate the beginning of the festive season in town.

“The committee are dedicated to putting on a display the town can be proud of, and we are very grateful to our primary sponsors Lyme Bay Holidays and SWIM for their support along with many other local businesses, the Town Council, Rotary Club, and members of the local community who have generously contributed to our fundraising efforts.

“There’s still time for local businesses to become sponsors or supporters. “You can also enter our grand fundraising raffle with three cash prizes of £300, £200 and £100 up for grabs plus meal vouchers for the Alexandra Hotel and Harbour Inn.

“You can get your raffle tickets via our website lymechristmaslights.co.uk, from the Slipway shop by the Cobb or from local fundraisers Joshua and Annette Denning or Andrew Hodder.”

The lights will continue to sparkle until the first week of January, taking the town into a bright New Year.
