Coronavirus cases start to drop across Dorset

IN line with the national picture, coronavirus cases across Dorset have started to drop.

The latest figures released on Friday, July 30 showed that there were 969 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Dorset Council area, down from 1,006 on July 23, and 1,843 in the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) area, a decrease from 2,113.

This means the case rate per 100,000 people was 256.0 in the Dorset Council area, compared to 265.8 the previous week, and 466.2 in the BCP area, compared to 534.5.

However, the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals across Dorset had increased from 27 to 36.

Up to July 27, 1,064,337 doses of COVID vaccinations had been administered to people in Dorset.

A spokesperson for Public Health Dorset said: “In line with the national picture, we have seen a decrease in COVID-19 cases across the county over the past week, particularly in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council area where the case rates are 466.2 per 100,000.

“Dorset Council’s case rate have also seen a slight decrease risen from 265.8 to 256.0 in a week.

“The average rate for the South West is 362.9 and for England it is 375.2.

“Case rates are highest amongst younger people, but we are seeing cases increase across all age groups.

“The number of people in hospitals in Dorset with COVID-19 has increased from 17 to 27 over the past week, and we have started to see a small number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the county.

“It’s important to note that these figures do not include data from the lifting of restrictions on July 19.

|We must keep doing all we can to prevent the spread of the virus. Make sure you get your second dose of the vaccine to get maximum protection, and keep doing regular rapid tests to check you aren’t infectious.

“Please continue to self-isolate if you have symptoms, test positive or are identified as a close contact.”

Coronavirus cases in the Lyme Regis area

COVID case numbers in the Lyme Regis area have also started to drop after recent increases.

In the seven-day period up until July 27, there were 15 recorded cases in the Lyme Regis, Charmouth & Marshwood Vale area, a decrease of five on the previous week.

The latest figures for surrounding areas are as follows: Uplyme, Kilmington & Colyton – 18 (increase of 4); Seaton – 6 (decrease of 5); Axminster – 20 (increase of 2); Burton Bradstock & Chideock – 13 (decrease of 2); Bridport South & West Bay – 8 (decrease of 1); Bridport North – 13 (increase of 2).
