EVERY year the senior citizens of Charmouth are treated to a free Christmas lunch and a summer outing.

It’s a tradition which has been going on since 1968 when it was run by the social club at The George public house.

From 1985 the organisation of the events for all those retired in the parish of Charmouth was handed over to a committee.

The two social events are funded by the staging of a produce auction at The George in September and three coffee mornings every year, the latest being held on Saturday, April 7th which was well supported as usual by villagers.

This year the summer outing will be held on June 27th when the Charmouthians will visit the Devon resort of Teignmouth.

The annual Christmas lunch is held in St Andrew’s Communtiy Hall, the last one being attended by the maximum number of 70 with entertainment provided by pupils of Charmouth Primary School.
