LYME Regis-based music charity B Sharp has raised £6,000 in just one month thanks to a successful Crowdfunding campaign.

The money will allow the charity to bring music-making events to even more young people, and the charity is now looking for further support from Dorset communities to stretch their target to £8,000.

B Sharp’s Crowdfunding campaign will fund more active and fun music sessions across Dorset, especially for children and young people who are facing particular challenges such as mental health issues.

Chief executive and artistic director Ruth Cohen said: “We are delighted with the success of our Crowdfunding campaign which will allow us to bring the life-changing power of music making to more young people across Dorset.

“We are extremely thankful to everyone who has supported us so far, and to Dorset Council for matching the donations.

“With further support we will be able to establish longer-term opportunities with groups that support more vulnerable young people, and support more young people to access B Sharp young music leader programme. Any pledge, however small will really help us reach our target.”

B Sharp is also seeking a new chairman of trustees, who can help capitalise on the success of this fundraising campaign.

The current chairman, Hannah Lovegrove, is stepping aside to focus on developing her business. The board would welcome interest from anyone who shares B Sharp’s passion for the life-changing power of music making and who wants to support an inspiring and ambitious local charity.

They are looking for someone who has the skills to support the next exciting phase of B Sharp’s development.

Mrs Lovegrove said: “During the four years since I became chairman of trustees, B Sharp set itself some ambitious targets and has achieved a great deal.

“There are some very interesting projects coming up and the success of the Crowdfunding campaign is the perfect opportunity for the Board to welcome a new chairman. I wish everyone great success for 2020.”
