THE Malthouse Gallery at the Town Mill in Lyme Regis has reopened following lockdown with an exhibition of mixed media paintings by well-known Lyme Regis artist Julie Oldfield.
Julie will be displaying her latest work, created during lockdown, in the exhibition ‘New Ground’ until May 4.
Commenting on her latest collection, Julie said: “I wanted to give a sense of escapism through my Skyscapes. To do this, I’ve been refining my process of burning and paitnting copper and brass sheets, then using layers of mixed media and subsequent natural weathering outside.”
It’s been a busy time for Julie, as she recently moved to a new home close to the Undercliff, as well as producing great art for commissions and preparing for her show.
Julie continued: “Being closer to the sea and Undercliff forest is very rewarding and feeds my art. I’m really looking forward to showing my new work and delighted that I will have the first exhibition in the Malthouse, to help refresh our cultural life in Lyme Regis, as we leave lockdown.”
As an experimenter and pioneer of mixed media on metal sheets, Julie’s paintings are striking yet calming and highly collectable.
Her website www.julieoldfield.com gives an insight into her style and shows a range of previous and current work.
The ‘New Ground’ exhibition will be open daily from 10.30am to 4pm until May 4.
