Horticultural Society to host film at Marine Theatre

Summer planting at the Hauser & Wirth gallery in Somerset

THE Uplyme & Lyme Regis Horticultural Society has expanded its winter programme and will be hosting its first film screening in the New Year.

The film ‘Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf’ will be shown at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Sunday, January 12 and all are welcome.

Piet Oudolf is an internationally-renowned Dutch garden designer, described as “a botanical David Attenborough”. The 75-minute documentary immerses viewers in Oudolf’s work and takes them inside his creative process, from his beautifully abstract sketches, to theories on beauty, to the ecological implications of his ideas.

The film tracks him in his own gardens at Hummelo in the Netherlands, and on visits to his signature public works in New York, Chicago, and the Netherlands, as well as to the far-flung locations that inspire him, including desert wildflowers in West Texas and post-industrial forests in Pennsylvania.

Closer to home, the film follows Oudolf as he designs and installs a major new garden at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset, a garden he considers his best work yet.

The bar will open at 2pm for a 3pm screening. Tickets cost £6 and are only available online at https://tiny.cc/ulrhs-film.
