Dreadzone heading for Jurassic Fields

BRIDPORT musical festival Jurassic Fields returns over the weekend of July 12 and 13 with Dreadzone, one of the best live acts on the circuit, and English rock band Coasts reforming for an exclusive appearance.

Following another successful year in 2018, this community music festival continues to go from strength to strength and returns this summer with another storming line-up and a new, bigger campsite.

Jurassic Fields has brought West Dorset the best in live music over the last six years, with headline acts having included The Fun Lovin Criminals, Dodgy, Dr & The Medics, Neville Staple, and The Dub Pistols.

This year’s line-up is set to be one of the best in the UK’s small festival league, with more than 40 acts appearing over the two-day event.

Coasts, who are reforming exclusively for Jurassic Fields, get the event off to a start by headlining on Friday night. Formed in Bristol in 2011 they are most notable for achieving two UK top 40 albums, the second of which reached the top 20.

Other big names gracing the bill on the Friday night will include Dr Meaker, currently reviewed as “The hottest live UK drum & bass act right now’’.

The legendary Sledge Head aka DJ Ray Mighty, of Smith & Mighty, will also be returning to Jurassic Fields this year.

On Saturday, festival circuit heavyweights Dreadzone will be headlining the main stage. One of the most energetic, exciting and powerful live bands to emerge from the post-rave scene, they have steadily been releasing albums and progressively bettering, refining and perfecting their own unique and inimitable take on dub since their inception in 1993.

Still going strong after 25 years in the game, they have also long been and still are one of the best live bands around.

Meanwhile, headlining the Big Top are CoCo and the Butterfields, an English indie-pop band who have spent much of their time on the road, touring the UK and Europe, selling out headline shows and featuring at many major festivals.

Finally, headlining the Tiny Top is Sam Green, a modern, independent roots artist with universal appeal. His music has served as the foundations on which he has built a strong reputation as a live act combining virtuosic musical skill with great song writing.

Also featuring on this year’s line-up is Kioko, who are currently touring sell out shows with the legendary UB40. Their soulful reggae/pop sound is sure to get the crowd bouncing.

With weekend adult tickets at as little as £35 and with camping at £65, Jurassic Fields is one of the more affordable festivals in the UK and all children under 13 go free. There are also good discounts for concessions and day tickets are also now available.

Last year, Jurassic Fields introduced camping and live-in vehicle pitches to great success and this year organised have created a new area three times bigger. The campsite will be open from Thursday, July 11 to Monday, July 15, allowing plenty of time for festival-goers to travel to the site and enjoy a long weekend of food, music and fun.

Jurassic Fields has always had more invested in Bridport than just bringing live music to town. Its long-term objective is to provide the capital to set up a local, professional music studio and rehearsal hall run by volunteers, allowing the sourcing and provision of grants to enable local musicians to further their careers.

Organises also hope the festival will act as a model for other communities in supporting their local musical talent.

A spokesperson for Jurassic Fields said: “Having established ourselves with the continued support of our sponsors, we are looking to push on and achieve our long term goal which we believe, will not only enhance the community socially but economically.

“We also have to take this moment to thank all of our continuing sponsors and new sponsors for without their support Jurassic Fields Festival would not be possible.

“So come on down and enjoy our community, good food, amazing music and Bridport at its best!”

Jurassic Fields will be held at Askers Meadows, Bridport, DT6 3XA. For further information or tickets visit www.jurassicfields.com
