‘Cold Feet’ actress to appear at Women’s Refuge fundraiser

ACTRESS Hermione Norris will be the star act at a ‘Cabaret and Cake’ afternoon organised by the Friends of West Dorset Women’s Refuge.

The event will be held at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Sunday, November 25 from 4pm to 5.30pm, with free entry.

The Friends aim to raise funds to support the women and children living in a local refuge and provide them with festive food. Presents for the children and women in the refuge, as well as basic necessities such as new single bedding, towels, toiletries and books would also be very welcome.

Margie Barbour, treasurer of the Friends committee, said: “We are so delighted that actor Hermione Norris has agreed to take part in the cabaret and support our fundraising efforts.

“Hermione is well known for playing Karen in the much loved TV comedy drama ‘Cold Feet’ and also appeared more recently in the crime thriller series ‘Innocent’.

“In both these roles she explored the pyschological and emotional aspects of close relationships.”

Hermione will be reading a selection of poetry and prose that highlight the complexities of intimate relationships.

During the cabaret, there will also be musical entertainment and a few surprises on offer, as well as free tea, coffee and homemade cake.

You First Service Manager Katie Bielec will explain the work of the refuge and Amanda Streatfeild, the chairman of the Friends, will speak about the role the Friends play in supporting the residents.

“Unfortunately the Christmas period can be a very stressful time and frequently a catalyst for relationships reaching crisis point,” said Linda Pyke, a member of the Friends committee.

“Helping agencies see a spike in referrals following the holiday season and for many women having access to a safe and secure refuge can be a real life saver.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the event and are asked to make a donation at the door and/or bring a Christmas present for one of the women or their children (of all ages) living at the refuge.
