Local hotel becomes sixth to open Laura Ashley tea room

Fairwater Head Hotel owners Adam and Carrie Southwell

THIS year has been one to remember for the Fairwater Head Hotel in Hawkchurch, near Lyme Regis, with not only a new head chef, David Brown, in its Greenfields Restaurant, but also the much-anticipated arrival of the Laura Ashley Tea Room.

Owners Adam and Carrie Southwell’s wealth of experience and high standards, as well as the hotel’s enviable location, are just some of the reasons that the prestigious brand Laura Ashley was keen to partner with Fairwater Head to open its sixth tea room in the UK.

Laura Ashley has helped redesign and redecorate the Edwardian drawing room, capturing its history and provenance and adding a style synonymous with the brand, including bespoke lighting and wall panels, as well as designer furniture and tableware from their own collections.

Mrs Southwell said: “We feel this is the right match for us and our guests, the Laura Ashley style is perfectly suited for our building and the renovations have made a beautiful room into an outstanding one.”

Mr Southwell added: “We are thrilled to be able to offer something else to our guests that is truly unique in the area. Interest is high and we never knew we had so many friends!”

Having run restaurants and wine bars in London, Adam and Carrie then ran the Prince Hall Hotel in Dartmoor for nine years, winning various accolades including AA 2 rosettes for their restaurant where Adam was the head chef.

In 2007 they bought the Fairwater Head Hotel, having been charmed by the Edwardian house and its stunning countryside location overlooking the Axe Valley. They have since won AA 1 and 2 rosettes, a Taste of the West Gold award and have been named Devon Food runners up for the Best Restaurant.
