Kaupeka teams up with Lilac for kitchen takeover in Lyme Regis

LONG-standing friends Kaupeka and Lilac will come together for a kitchen takeover in Lyme Regis next week.

Oli Justice, founder of Kaupeka and Harriet Mansell, founder of Lilac and her sister restaurant Robin Wylde, share a mutual interest in creating unique dining experiences using consciously sourced produce from the surrounding landscape, whilst taking note of how their dishes impact the world around them.

With hospitality still very much feeling the aftermath of the COVID pandemic and staffing issues continuing to stretch teams to the limit, Kaupeka will take over on the pass at town  centre restaurant and wine bar Lilac, to give the usual kitchen team a well-earned break, just in time for the busier summer months.

Kaupeka is no stranger to Lyme Regis. In fact, this kitchen takeover doubles-up as a homecoming for Oli and his team.

Last year they launched at The Pop-Up Kitchen before moving onto their summer home in the woods, where they got to know the people of Lyme Bay at their Wild Café on Trinity Hill, serving wood-fired brunch and lunch for the season.

The takeover at Lilac will last four nights from Thursday, June 30 to Sunday, July 3, and diners can book for dinner or lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Guests can expect punchy, exciting small plates from Kaupeka, showcasing Oli’s favourite suppliers and producers from the local area, taking a break from cooking over fire to create plates inspired by the Mediterranean and across the world, served alongside the usual drinks and service from the Lilac team. 

Keen to get going and relish the opportunity to bring his food back to where it all began, Oli can’t wait to be back in Dorset.

“I’m just so stoked to get stuck into this,” he said.

“Harriet and I have toyed with ways to work together for some time now so it’s great that we’re finally able to put something like this together. 

“Hospitality is a tough place to be at the minute so it’s never been more important that we all dig-in and work together, where we can to not only create new and exciting dining experiences for our guests, but also to make sure we’re looking after ourselves and our teams.”
