A new approach at Lyme’s popular vegetarian bistro

FOLLOWING six successful years in Lyme Regis, Tierra Kitchen has been given a fresh, new look with a deli and shop offering its own range of homemade vegetarian and vegan produce.

Tierra Kitchen opened in Coombe Street – the heart of Lyme’s ‘cultural quarter’ – in 2013 under the creative eye of chef Mark Evans. Mark had already seen success at Bristol’s Café Maitreya – twice named Restaurant of the Year by the National Vegetarian Society and winner of the 2007 Observer food monthly award for Best Vegetarian Restaurant in 2007.

With consistent listings in the Good Food Guide, Café Maitreya was part of a renaissance in vegetarian cuisine and Mark has continued to build on this legacy at Tierra.

The bistro was an instant hit with residents and visitors alike, and has regularly been listed as Lyme’s number one eatery as the demand for vegetarian and vegan cuisine continues to grow.

Following a short closure for refurbishment, Tierra Kitchen reopened earlier this month with a fresh look and a new shop and deli section, offering a wide variety of whole foods, vegetarian, vegan and organic produce, including Tierra’s own ranges.

Along with business partner Jane Bard, who many may recognise from the Town Mill, Mark will be cooking up a storm, with lunchtime menus including dishes such as spring vegetable tagine, the Tierra mezze and leek, wild garlic and pistachio paella.

A selection of light bites including samosas and falafels will also be available, as well as homemade pastries, cakes and bread – all made on site – to eat in or takeaway.

The modern and vibrant menus change regularly and use the best local, seasonal, organic and wild produce available in the West Dorset and East Devon area.

Tierra’s Mediterranean-inspired dishes revolve around a star seasonal, local ingredient, fully complimented by all the other elements to create a plate with a great depth of flavour, colour and texture.

The dishes are original and unique, with all elements of the menus produced on site; bread is made daily alongside pastry, pasta and ice cream, etc.

Alongside its own range of produce now available in the new shop section, Tierra Kitchen has released two of its own cookbooks, which can be purchased in the restaurant or via the website www.tierrakitchen.co.uk

The restaurant will no longer be open in the evenings.
