Powers that be should ‘look at the bigger picture’ before hiking car parking charges

parkingI HAVE been coming to Lyme Regis for over 50 years, virtually every year, often two or three times.

It has been amazingly unspoilt in the main over the years, despite the changing disposition of the world around us, but the evidence of anti-social behaviour is a concern.

For Lyme to be the attractive sea town it is, a significant issue for us now, however, is the unbelievable hike in car parking prices, which have gone from £2 a day in Holmbush car park, to £8, with a likely increase to £10 next year!

All the car parks are increasing, and the very little car parking, for a short period, in Broad Street, has been mostly stopped.

I won’t be on my own in thinking twice about coming to Lyme in the future if the parking adds, not £14 to a break, but £70 to our stay.

Is it making us all pay even more for the effect of COVID-19 on our economy?

I can’t believe that the powers that be, aren’t embarrassed, or can’t see the bigger picture on this matter.
