LETTER: Were the actions of Dominic Cummings ‘safe or fair’?

Number 10 special advisor Dominic Cummings

AN open letter to West Dorset MP Chris Loder:

I am writing to you as a British citizen currently studying in the United States, with my family home in Lyme Regis, Dorset.

I am absolutely disgusted by the government’s inaction regarding Dominic Cummings’ flagrant disregard for the COVID-19 guidance regarding social distancing.

The government’s own guidance is crystal clear: do not leave your home if you, or someone you live with, has symptoms of coronavirus.

I struggle to see exactly where these rules make allowances for a 250 mile trip across the country to see relatives in Durham.

I note that on May 16 you retweeted Dorset Council UK’s plea for people considering visiting the region to: “Think twice. Is it safe? Is it fair?”

Do you agree that it was neither safe nor fair for Cummings to make multiple trips outside of London during the pandemic? Do you agree that Cummings’ behaviour undermines the great personal sacrifice millions in the UK have made over the previous weeks and months?

If so, I urge you to join multiple backbench colleagues and call for the swift resignation of Cummings.

I look forward to receiving your response.
