LETTER: Silent nights in the gardens thanks to security guards

police seafrontI WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank Lyme Regis Town Council for bringing in the security guards.

I have to say I was amazed when I read in LymeOnline that they were going to spend £10,000 on these patrols but delighted at the same time.

We live alongside the gardens and almost every night, lockdown included, we were kept awake by the noise of music going on for hours after 11pm.

I spoke to the mayor who was very understanding , the police came round and spoke to people living in the area and the next thing I know we have security guards and since then… silent nights.

I’m somewhat disappointed by the attitude of the two councillors who feel it is a waste of money; these two just don’t realise there are no police, we would like to think there are but there aren’t.

Very interesting to read that Councillor David Ruffle thinks that the noise is mainly caused by locals. Does this man prowl the gardens at night and identify just locals dancing the night away?

Does anyone in this town, apart from these councillors, think that Lyme Regis Town Council is hard up and can’t afford these guards? I doubt it.

Next on the agenda, please can we have a hawk patrolling the main beach on very regular occasions please, the town thrives on tourists and hardly anyone comes off the beach without a story of seagulls, stolen food and frighten children.
