THE Marine Players are having a ‘dickens of a time’ with their rehearsals for ‘A Christmas Carol’, writes David Ruffle.
We have been through some hard times, but have great expectations that we will have a wonderful show to present to you all. You could say, and I will, that we are expecting a full house every evening as opposed to a bleak house.
What can you expect? Music, singing and a display of enthusiasm by members of the cast who were hand picked at no cost whatsoever. Say what you like about us (or maybe not) but we do work cheaply.
Everything is coming along together nicely including the songs which have suddenly become louder and more importantly, in tune!
Fred Humphrey is playing Scrooge, as he did in the 2013 production. No element of type-casting he assures me although when I asked for a 50p contribution towards my expenses, I distinctly heard the word ‘humbug’ escape his lips, unless it was my imagination.
So come along and see us at the Marine Theatre, it will be magic (not magic like David Copperfield practises but still…).
Opening night is Wednesday, December 5 and performances continues through to Saturday, December 8, 7.30pm start every evening plus a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday.
