Scouts celebrate St George’s Day

THE 1st Lym Valley Scout Group renewed their promises and took part in East Devon Scouts’ first St George’s Day Race as part of a day of celebrations.

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts paraded at 1st Sid Vale’s centre in Salcombe Regis, followed by a renewal of their Scout promises and an awards ceremony.

The Scouts then took part in the race, which involved making a dragon out of a wheelbarrow, broomsticks; dressing up as St George, making their own sword and armour; and then racing against other Scout groups from East Devon.

The 1st Lym Valley team came fourth out of 10 teams.

Group leader Karen Yelland said: “It was great day, and I was so pleased to see the young people enjoy themselves. The group had a great day out and it was a good opportunity to catch up with groups from across the district.”
