The Kingfisher – royalty of British birds

kingfisherTHE kingfisher is by far the royalty of British birds – beautiful colours including iridescent blue feathers and a unique way of catching food on our waterways.

This bird is a female, the male birds have a pure black bottom beak and not orange as in the picture.

The small fish – a minnow – is firmly gripped in his mouth and will soon be despatched whole down the kingfishers gullet – then she’ll fly off for the next one!
