Snow wipes out local football

ALL three Lyme Regis FC teams were left kicking their heels when Friday’s heavy snow wiped out the local football programme.

The Seasiders’ first team were due to meet Devon & Exeter Premier Division leaders Exwick Villa, one of their toughest games of the season, but the Davey Fort ground was frozen solid.

Lyme Reserves’ Division Four match at Pinhoe was also called off, as was Lyme Rovers’ Woodroffe School home game against Perry Street Division Three leaders Merriott Dynamos.

Only six fixtures in the eight divisions of the Devon & Exeter league survived the snow with the sole Premier division game seeing Heavitree bang in seven goals with one reply from Clyst Valley.

This coming Saturday (February 9) Lyme Regis 1sts are away to second from bottom Okehampton Argyle. Lyme Regis Reserves are at home to Sampford Peverell, nine places below them in Division Four, and will be looking to do the double after beating them 3-1 at Okehampton a couple of weeks ago to strengthen their position in third place.

Lyme Rovers are on cup duty travelling to Thorncombe in the Daisy Hutchings Cup. In the Perry Street League, Uplyme are at home to Division One leaders Perry Street
