BRIDPORT Ladies indoor bowls team are still in with a great chance of winning the Dorset County Indoor League title as they took six of the eight available points against one of their main rivals Bournemouth A.
It couldn’t have been closer, as Frances Hewett, Gill Hunt, Sheila Nicoll & Margaret Clapp dropped seven shots over the last six ends to lose 10-21. But Laura Taylor, Margaret Pestelle, Sue Walsh & Annie Legg saved the day as a strong finish gave them a 21-9 win to leave Bridport 31-30 winners overall.
Mike Long, Brian Rumble & Stephen Grier lost their National Triples area final match against a trio from Weston-Super-Mare. It was anybody’s match until the last two ends which went their opponents way.
Meanwhile, Bernard Perry, Jill Willcox, Sharon Heath and Mel Hargett were top performers in Bridport’s Four Rink Mixed Friendly against Chardstock, winning 29-7. They were 12-7 up at the tea interval but after the break they won the last eight ends. A 3,2 finish gave Pam and Harry Gray, Beryl Stork, Keven Rendell and Phil Hedges a 23-12 win. Sylvia and Mike Fletcher, Les Heath & Erica Sarson recorded a 18-11 win with Chardstock fighting back to win one rink 21-10.
