FOR 172 years the Melplash Show in West Bay, Bridport, has been celebrating the best of agriculture by the sea.

This year’s one-day farming, food and fun extravaganza takes place on Thursday, August 22 and is promising to be bigger and better than ever!

Local farmers will as always be competing in the many livestock classes while other members of the local community will be vying for prizes in the handicraft, home produce and horticulture classes.

Organisers are delighted to announce Bradfords Building Suppliers as the events new main sponsor.

In 2020 Bradfords will be celebrating its 250th anniversary and has chosen the Melplash Show as a means of sharing this major achievement with the local community.

Alongside their sponsorship Bradfords will have a large stand by the main ring where they will be showcasing what they do. They have invited five of their suppliers to exhibit alongside them: Timco, Millboard, Stone Market, Melcourt and Gap. On show will be hand and power tools including an excavator as well as ‘how to’ demonstrations.

There will also be lots of free activities and games for children to enjoy including face painting and fun photo opportunities.

Bradfords chief executive David Young said: “We are extremely proud and excited to be The Melplash Show’s main sponsors this year. The society, very much like Bradfords, has a long pedigree and continues to keep the local community, particularly farming, at its heart.

“The show is going to be another great opportunity to entertain our customers at an event we know they love and an event close to the local markets heart.”

There is an exciting timetable of attractions for all the family to enjoy both in the Bradford Building Supplies main ring and in the Kitson & Trotman Solicitors countryside arena.

The main attraction this year is the popular freestyle motocross rider Jamie Squibb and his team whose arena stunt show is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. They last appeared at the show in 2011 and thrilled the crowd with their breath-taking mid-air jumps and stunts.

For the younger generation there will be a packed programme of hands-on activities in the Discover Farming and Explore Farming marquees.

In the cookery theatre, the Show welcomes Bridport born celebrity chef and restaurateur Mark Hix. Mark will be talking about, and demonstrating recipes from, his new book ‘Hooked – Adventures in Angling and Eating.

He will be joined by other local chefs and experts including James Whetlor from Cabrito who will be showcasing ‘kid’ goat meat.

Alongside there will be more than 400 exhibitors and trade stands spread across three fields offering a wide range of products including the Food Hall which will be full of the very best food and drink from the South West.

With the gates opening at 8am and closing at 6pm visitors of all ages are guaranteed a full day’s entertainment.

Entry on the gate £17 for adults and children 16 years and under go free. Discounted advance tickets can be bought online at www.melplashshow.co.uk
