Veteran councillor elected new deputy mayor

LYME Regis’ longest-serving councillor Stan Williams has been elected as the town’s new deputy mayor.

Councillor Williams succeeds Jeff Scowen, who resigned from the town council last month to move to north Wales.

He will serve under the Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Brian Larcombe MBE, until the end of his current term of office in May.

Councillor Larcombe nominated Councillor Williams for the position, saying he already attended most local events and showed great commitment and dedication.

He was then elected unanimously, despite not being present at the meeting.

Councillor Williams has served on Lyme Regis Town Council for more than 50 years and was mayor from 1997 to 1999. He has also previous served a deputy mayor.
