THE 89th Uplyme & Lyme Regis Horticultural Society Summer Show and Country Fayre will be held on Uplyme playing field on Saturday, July 14.

This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating the Rose’, and there will be plenty on show. Proceedings will be opened by Anne Swithinbank, well-known local gardener and broadcaster, at 1pm. Anne will also be answering your gardening questions from 2.30pm and presenting the prizes and trophies at 4.30pm.

Along with the spectacular entries for the many competition classes, there will be the ever-popular family dog show (so bring your dog and its best tricks), a wide range of entertainment, alpacas, miniature ponies, poultry and country craft demonstrations.

There will also be music, performances by Uplyme Morris Men, free steam train rides, cream teas in the village hall, a bouncy castle, food and drink stalls, charity and commercial stalls of all kinds – something for all the family to enjoy. Entry costs £2.50 or is free for under 16s with an adult.

The competitions include many flower and veg classes (potatoes in a bucket will be emptied and weighed on the day), cookery, preserves, homemade wines, crafts, floral art, photography and a large entry from the children of Mrs Ethelston’s Primary School for the junior classes.
