Plans to brighten up Uplyme with Christmas lights

UPLYME councillors hope to brighten up the village this Christmas and will consider a proposal for festive illuminations at next month’s meeting.

The suggestion of purchasing some Christmas lights for Uplyme came from parish councillor Becky Turner, who said the village looked “miserable” last December.

Councillor Turner said she did not expect the display to compete with neighbouring Lyme Regis, but she hoped to start with something small that the village could build on.

Council chairman Chris James suggested a large Christmas tree with lights could be erected in the centre of the village.

Councillor Turner was asked to bring her proposal back to the October meeting of the parish council, with a suggested budget in mind. As well as funding from the council, contributions and ideas from local businesses and residents would also be welcome.
