UPDATE: Runaway van crashes into car

A RUNAWAY van crashed into a car at the bottom of Broad Street, Lyme Regis, this morning.

The van was parked near Roly’s Fudge Pantry on Broad Street when it is thought to have suffered handbrake failure. The driver saw the van rolling away and chased it down the street.

He shouted to the driver of a parked car in the Cobb Gate area to move out of the way, saving her from injury at the last minute.

The van collided with the car, which in turn crashed into the front of Cobb Gate Fish Bar, causing some damage. No one was injured in the incident.

The fish and chip shop was closed having recently been sold with the adjacent Rock Point Inn.

Lyme Regis fire crew and police were called to the incident and a recovery truck eventually removed the vehicles from the scene.
