LYME Regis Development Trust has just received a grant for £7,050 from section 106 funding, allowing it to press ahead with the creation of an exciting new amenity for the community.
The Men’s Shed concept originated in Australia and is now spreading throughout the UK.
It’s a simple idea – equip a shed with state-of-the-art carpentry tools and allow men (and women!) of a certain age loose.
It may be a simple idea but pays dividends on several levels, providing a social hub and sense of community for older men and women, while providing a valuable resource for the town.
There will also be classes in basic skills and wood-turning at heavily subsidised rates.
It will be a few months before the shed will be up and running and volunteers are needed to erect and fit out the building.
Anyone interested in helping should contact Chris Tipping by emailing propertymanager@lrdt.co.uk
