Power cut hits town centre businesses

SEVERAL town centre shops and businesses in Lyme Regis have been forced to close due to a power cut today.

Some businesses at the lower end of Broad Street and on Bridge Street have had to close temporarily, including Lyme Bay Dentistry, Seasalt, Bell Cliff, Red Panda and the Lyme Bay Cafe Bar, while some others have kept doors open despite having no electricity.

The town council offices have also been affected but remain open for general enquiries.

The power cut comes in an already disruptive week for businesses, which have been affected by a road closure in Bridge Street for gas works.

Many homes have also been affected by the power cut, particularly around the main housing estate in Lyme Regis.

Western Power Distribution said it’s engineers were working in a high voltage fault in the area and it expected to restore all supplies by 4pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement added.
