CELEBRATED chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix will host a fundraising event at his Lyme Regis restaurant in aid of the town’s sculpture trail.
In partnership with the Arts Development Company, a four-course dinner, artist conversation and auction will be held at HIX Oyster & Fish House in Lister Gardens on Monday, November 12.
Langmoor and Lister Gardens have been home to the sculpture trail since 2015. Perched above the beach, with far-reaching views to the Cobb and coastline beyond, the gardens provide a perfect outdoor gallery for contemporary sculptures by local artists.
Artist and recent graduate Carrie Mason is currently exhibiting her sculpture ‘Breaking Through’ and commented: “I was delighted to be selected to be part of the Lyme Regis Sculpture Trail 2018. It is a fantastic opportunity to bring art out of a gallery and make it accessible to the public.
“My work is about finding time for quiet contemplation and the location of the sculpture trail provides a perfect setting.”
Mark Hix, a known art fan and collector, will be welcoming guests to his seafood restaurant for a four-course meal paired with wines from a local vineyard.
Guests will also enjoy an entertaining talk from artist Clare Trenchard, whose artwork ‘Trapeze’ is currently part of the sculpture trail, and director of Slader’s Yard, Anna Powell.
An auction will take place after the meal with prizes including weekends away, VIP cultural events and creative workshops which have been donated by local businesses and organisations.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to developing the Lyme Regis Sculpture Trail, together with a percentage from tickets and sales of a limited number of beautiful maquettes by the artists whose work is currently in the gardens.
