Lyme bowlers caught up in attack from Teignmouth teens

LYME Regis Bowls Club travelled to Teignmouth for an evening match on Saturday, June 8 but the game ended in a brawl after a group teenagers allegedly attacked pensioners. 

A group of youths reportedly invaded the bowling green at The Den in Teignmouth armed with stones. They were verbally abusive and attacked an elderly man who was taken to hospital with cuts to his face.

The incident lasted for about half an hour before an off-duty police officer who was passing by intervened and four police cars later arrived on the scene.

One Teignmouth bowler told local press that the youths had been “intimidating people in the resort for years”.

He added that the town was “devastated” by the incident.

Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police said they were aware of the incident and three individuals were assisting with their ongoing enquiries.
