PUBS in the Lyme Regis area are joining forces to ensure they can provide a safe environment for residents and visitors.

The Lyme Regis Pub Watch scheme was recently launched under the chairmanship of Rebecca DeVoisey of the Nag’s Head. Other licensed premises currently taking part include the Volunteer Inn, Pilot Boat, Ship Inn, Royal Standard, Harbour Inn and the Talbot Arms in Uplyme.

The Pub Watch is part of a national scheme and will be working alongside the local police, with Police Community Support Officer Amanda King and Police Licensing Officer John Bean helping to get it off the ground.

Local landlords hope that by working together they will be able to prevent issues such as anti-social behaviour, and provide a safe environment for the local community and those eating, drinking and socialising in local pubs.

Members will be meeting quarterly to share information and best practise, and will operate a banning policy across all licensed premises which are a member of the scheme in the event of serious incidents.

Mrs DeVoisey commented: “It’s really great to be working together, as before we were quite isolated. We hope this will be a positive thing for the town and will improve safety for our staff and customers.”

She added that Lyme Regis Pub Watch would operate under a proper code of conduct, data protection laws and official protocols and processes set by the national scheme.

Members are keen for more licensed premises in the area to get involved. Those interested in joining should email Rebecca on info@nagsheadlymeregis.com
