A BUMPER Bank Holiday weekend is set to bring summer in Lyme Regis to a spectacular end.

Billed as ‘The Big Bank Holiday Weekend’, Lyme Regis will play host its popular Sausage & Cider Festival on Saturday, August 25, followed by the return of the unique fundraiser Candles On The Cobb on Sunday 26.

Organisers of both events have now teamed up to promote them jointly, with the hopes of topping off summer 2018 in spectacular style.

Back by popular demand, Lyme Regis Football Club will host the second annual Sausage & Cider Festival, this year with an even bigger programme of entertainment. Gates at the Davey Fort ground on Charmouth Road will open at 2pm on Saturday, August 25 with live music all day, culminating with headliners DeltaTango7. Entry is free.

A range of locally-made ciders will be on offer, as well as a selection of sausages on the barbecue. There will also be a full bar, Pimm’s, Prosecco & Gin Tent, a raffle to win a wheelbarrow of booze and more.

Organisers are currently looking for local businesses who would be interested in sponsoring a barrel of cider for £40. Those interested should contact Francesca Evans on 07810 221 420. Funds raised at the event will go to the football club’s ongoing development fund.

The festival will be followed by the return on Candles On The Cobb on the evening of Sunday, August 26.

The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis has taken over organisation of this unique and moving fundraising event, which will see 5,000 candles lit around Lyme’s historic Cobb wall and harbour, with the public invited to purchase a candle in memory of a loved one.

This year’s event will form part of commemorations marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, with proceeds to be split between the Royal British Legion and local good causes.

Candles On The Cobb has been held six times in Lyme Regis – in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2015 – attracting huge crowds to the town each time and raising a total of more than £118,000 for national and local charities.
