Lyme artist selected to exhibit during Devon Open Studios

Lyme Regis artist Hugh Dunford Wood demonstrates his ‘wallpaper stomping’ technique

LYME Regis artist Hugh Dunford Wood has been selected to exhibit his work during Devon Open Studios 2019.

Hugh, a printmaker known for his hand-printed wallpaper, is one of six artists whose work will be showcased by the Devon Guild of Craftsmen at their craft centre at Riverside Mill in Bovey Tracey.

These six will be among 200 artists in venues across the county to display their work during the Devon Open Studios event, running from September 7 to 29.

The Riverside Gallery will be transformed into craftmakers’ studios for the event. Each artist will take their turn, with Hugh running a ‘wallpaper stomping’ demonstration. These two-hour sessions will be held on September 19 and 28 at 10.30am and 2pm.

Hugh has worked as an artist since his school days in the 1970s. He has painted landscapes and portraits, designed textiles and wallpapers and now makes editioned prints, some using small separate linocuts. These have become known as Collinos; they are worked around a themed series, not telling a story, but creating a mood more like poems than illustrations.

The full programme of demonstrations being held at the Riverside Mill in Bovey Tracey is available on the Devon Guild of Craftsmen’s website www.crafts.org.uk/events. No booking is required.
