Electricity back on after major power cut

A MAJOR power cut in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) is thought to have affected 40,000 households and businesses across West Dorset, East Devon and South Somerset.

Power outages were reported in Lyme Regis, Bridport, Beaminster, Axminster, Seaton, Colyton, Chard, Ilminster, Crewkerne and surrounding villages.

It is thought the electricity went off at about 4.30am due to a fault on the National Grid knocking power out from the main substation in the Axminster area.

Power was back on by about 6.30am.

Western Power Distribution said: “We’re pleased to say that all supplies have now been restored after working with National Grid UK to restore a fault on their network.

“If anyone is still off please try resetting your trip switches by turning them all off & back on again. If that doesn’t work please call us on 105.”
