THE penultimate film in the ‘Tuesday Night at the Movies’ series at the Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis, will be 1963 British classic, ‘Tom Jones’.
Voted by Lyme Regis residents as the film they’d most like to see again at the cinema, ‘Tom Jones’ stars the late Albert Finney and Susannah York in this rowdy version of Henry Fieldings’ novel, scripted by John Osbourne.
The film’s director, Tony Richardson, despite winning Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars, had some reservations about it, but hopefully the Marine’s audiences will only have praise for this engaging comedy which mixes the bawdiness of the 18th-century England with the cinematic playfulness of 1960s cinema.
‘Tom Jones’ screens on Tuesday, August 13 with the bar opening at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.
Tickets cost £6 in advance or £7.50 on the door and are available by calling 01297 442138 or visit www.marinetheatre.com
The ‘Tuesday Night at the Movies’ series will finish with ‘Cabaret’ on August 27.
