LIANE Carroll, who is headlining Jazz Jurassica’s festival finale this coming weekend, is one of the finest female singers this country has ever produced.
She has few contemporary rivals to match her feel for jazz and blues and her accomplished piano playing. For UK comparisons perhaps only the late great Dusty Springfield comes close to her in terms of range and versatility.
Her four albums, the latest entitled ‘Seaside’ in homage to her beloved hometown of Hastings, have all garnered awards and acclaim. With many collaborators, including Paul McCartney, she’s something of a pillar of the jazz scene, yet hip enough to have played with drum and bass band, London Elektricityat Glastonbury.
With her earthy voice and authentic delivery she never gives less than her all – whether it’s a swinging jazz number or a heart-breaking blues ballad. You need to experience her live to understand what all the fuss is about.
“She doesn’t just sing jazz, she is jazz.”
Liane Carroll will perform at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Sunday, May, 27, 8pm, as the finale to the Jazz Jurassica festival. Tickets are available at http://buytickets.at/jazzjurassica/145254 or call Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442138.
