Kusanganisa bring mix of world music to Marine

kusanganisa

KUSANGANISA will be bringing their world music grooves to the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Saturday, April 7.

Kusanganisa is the Shona word for ‘mixture’, which aptly describes this new music project involving four musicians from different traditions.

Chartwell Dutiro from Zimbabwe sings and plays mbira (African thumb piano) and has been brought up in the Shona tradition; Leandro Maia from Brazil is a guitarist, singer and composer; the English band members are saxophonist Nick Sorensen whose music is located within the traditions of contemporary jazz and folk music; and bass player Chris Blanden who has spent years playing rock music and has worked at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.

Kusanganisa gave their first performance last year and since then they have performed at UK concert venues and festivals and have toured to Ghent and Amsterdam. The band recently returned from playing two concerts in Brazil; their performance at the Theatro São Pedro in Porto Alegre got a standing ovation and was broadcast on Brazilian TV on Christmas Day.

Wherever they play, their mellifluous and engaging music wins over the audience.

Kusanganisa will be performing at the Marine Theatre on Saturday, April 7, starting at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door. Book by calling 01297 442138 or visit www.marinetheatre.com
