‘MOONBEAM on a Cat’s Ear’ is a theatre production full of visual adventures for children, to be performed at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis later this moth.
Based on the book by the French-Canadian author and illustrator Marie-Louise Gay, it enters the magical liminal world of dreams and features puppetry, movement, and music for ages three and up.
The story follows Rosie, Toby Toby, the cat and the mouse as they sneak out in the middle of the night to play in the shadow of the apple tree. When Toby Toby steals the moon from the sky, the gang go on an adventure across the stars and the sea – but is it all just a dream?
Jabuti Theatre’s adaptation of the children’s book encapsulates the beauty and detail of Marie-Louise’s illustrations through puppetry, physical theatre, and magical light boxes. All accompanied with a mesmerising original musical soundscape and score that help bring the narrative to life.
By only using the text from the book, this is a simple yet visually compelling story about two children and their adventure with the moon.
“It is an ingenious gem aimed at wee ones but a joy for anyone whose inner child still lurks near the surface” – Irene Brown, Edinburgh Guide
