Bronte’s 200th anniversary marked with comic play

THE bicentenary of author Emily Bronte’s birth is being celebrated with a special event at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis this November.

Penned by comedians Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, ‘Withering Looks’ takes an “authentic” look at the lives and works of the Bronte sisters.

Peopled with many of the characters we know and love, Maggie and Sue move effortlessly from frock to frock coat, while donning crinolines and flattering bonnets, and sitting at rained-lashed windows in a pale and decorative manner.

‘Withering Looks’ won a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award and the Critics’ Award for Comedy at the Edinburgh Festival.

“It’s a joy – very very funny”   The Guardian

The play will be held at the Marine Theatre on Tuesday, November 6 with doors opening at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.

Tickets cost £12 in advance or £14.50 on the door, with 10% off for Theatre Friends. Call 01297 442138 or visit to book.
