MARK your calendars for a Good Friday gig on March 30 in Lyme Regis, when local musicians will come together as part of Youth Music’s flagship fundraising initiative ‘Give a Gig’, in support of music-making projects for children and young people in challenging circumstances.
Jon Pogson, local musician and leader with B Sharp, the Lyme Regis-based music charity, and organiser of the gig, commented: “Musicians and promoters have come together for this night with The Hub in Lyme, to host one of the 100 gigs happening across the country in support of this fantastic national charity.
“Youth Music have invested in our local area for over 10 years, through a range of music projects led by B Sharp, our very own music charity, helping them to work with young people and changing lives through music.
“I am looking forward to hosting what promises to be a music packed night featuring a select number of talented guest performers.”
The much-loved local pop, disco and dance band Mr Jèan will be headlining the event, specialising in music from the 1970s to the modern day.
They commented: “We are thrilled to be performing as part of Give a Gig. We haven’t played in Lyme Regis for a while, so it will be great to be back with what is sure to be a great night and with audiences who we know like to party!”
Mr Jèan are supported by LaunchPad – B Sharp’s lively, up-and-coming house band, made up of a talented mix of musicians from the local area, performing a selection of original tunes and favourite covers.
Well-known for their exciting music, they have been impressing audiences wherever they play.
The night will start 7.30pm in The Hub in Church Street and run til late wrapped up with a DJ set from Dom Kirtley, a B Sharp alumnus coming back from London to help support the event.
“Music is a common language for us all,” said Jon, “it gives us a place for expression and to come together both as musicians and audiences to have a good time.
“We hosted an event last year and this year we are making it even bigger and better.”
Rock legend Ian Gillan, frontman of Deep Purple who recently visited the B Sharp music charity, said: “I’m still in touch with many of my early musical mates, and we all remain grateful to those who helped us then and as a consequence music has gone on to being a friend for life to us all.”
